Northern Lights Broadcasting
Northern Lights Broadcasting is the flagship station of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins. When the company wanted to move their broadcasting facilities and related administration and sales offices, they selected NELSON to provide full interior design, branding, furniture, signage and architectural services for their new 10,000 SF location within the first floor of the Historic Ford Center. This relocation project focused on three main goals: Brand, State-of-the-art Functionality and Transformational Aesthetic.
Branding of the space was of the highest priority and the grand interior entry façade became a perfect place to showcase a new logo. The clean and architectural aesthetic of the public areas gives an impression of a forward-thinking, progressive organization. Dramatic lighting coupled with generous ceiling heights allow the space to soar. Externally, the goal was to grab the attention of the thousands of passersby who travel to and from the Twins Stadium across the street. Galvanized aluminum clad broadcast studios were strategically placed irregularly along the historic paned floor to ceiling windows to create a modern and energetic flow. To heighten the interest at nighttime, concealed color changing LED light sources bathe the aluminum cladding in color - creating an eye-catching effect both inside and out.
As much as branding and aesthetic were of critical concern, the business of broadcasting and its related technical and acoustic requirements required a high level of attention and specificity. Identical State of the art broadcast and related editing studios and consoles were created to fulfill the growing stations needs for the future. Customized acoustical detailing and consultant coordination came together and allowed the team to exceed the necessary requirements so as to fully isolate these spaces from the often loud people, trains and buses passing by.
