Jackson Memorial Health Systems Holtz Children’s Hospital
The sixth floor pediatric unit at JMH/Holtz Children’s Hospital is being converted to treat the pediatric oncology patient. The seventeen-bed unit serves to also house the bone marrow transplant patient, with the rooms having positive pressure and all ventilation being HEPA filtered. Two isolation rooms are included that provide vestibules for appropriate ventilation separation. Each of the regular patient rooms has an isolation station adjacent to the entrance to allow for hand washing and gowning for those treating or visiting the patient. Designed with a core nursing station, strategically located touch down positions for the nurses allow ease of access to their assigned patients. The unit is thematically designed following an “art and color” theme, using bright colors splotches and handprints to engage the pediatric patients yet allowing a variance of interest for the different age groups. Interactive technology dispersed throughout the unit enhances the patient experience for the children especially those needing to be hospitalized for extended periods of time.
