Biogen Inc-Weston

The design of the 350,000 SF Biogen global headquarters began with pre-lease services. As a member of the team responsible for site selection, NELSON provided a preliminary program of requirements, test-fits of multiple buildings, development of a work letter, and lease review. The project has been designed for LEED Certification.

An innovative component of the project is the use of thermally constant water from a quarry pond for heating and cooling. The unique feature is a demonstrable example of Biogen's commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. The open office areas enjoy spectacular views of the site through full height glass walls on the ends of the two buildings that are free of offices. Great care has been paid to provide opportunities that foster cross functional employee teaming. A central kitchen/break area on each floor is a center of activity for employees, along with informal meeting areas scattered throughout the office space. The interior fit-up includes an 11,000 SF training and conference center, a 170 seat auditorium, a 200 seat cafeteria and a 6,000 SF fitness center. Branding features throughout the buildings speak to the patients, products and research activities of this bio-tech corporation.
