Caterpillar Vikings Stadium Luxury Suite Design Branding

Working on a fast-track schedule, NELSON designed a lively and intimate space incorporating Caterpillar’s desire for a heavily-branded environment using durable materials and finishes.

For several years, NELSON has provided design services for Caterpillar Paving Products’ Brooklyn Park facility. When Caterpillar signed a two-year lease for a suite at Mall of America Field (home of the Minnesota Vikings), the company called upon NELSON to redesign the space in order to provide a world-class experience for their employees and clients. The catch—the design, construction, and installation of furnishings—would all be required to be completed prior to the first preseason opening kick-off.

Our recommendation, which was readily accepted by Caterpillar, was to gut the outdated space. Materials were selected based on their durability, their availability, and their appropriate quality and color choices. The color scheme—from the yellow glass tile to the black porcelain tile flooring— reinforces the Caterpillar brand. Other design elements include theatre and hi-top seating, black quartz stand-up counter, new ceilings with dimmable lighting and supplemental air conditioning systems, three large flat-screen TVs, and large graphics depicting Caterpillar’s machinery in action.

After the 3 ½ week fast-track construction process, MOA workers marveled at the design, proclaiming it to be “better than the Owner’s Suite.” Caterpillar is looking forward to sharing the 2010 and 2011 Vikings’ football success with their clients in their newly-designed suite located on the 45-yard line.
