Rockford Orthopedic

Chicago, IL
Rockford Orthopedic Associates

NELSON redeveloped Rockford Orthopedic Associates’ space for various clinical functions, including a general orthopedic clinic, urgent care center, total joint and rheumatology clinics - totaling approximately 40,000 SF. A central administration and support services space was also designed for the remaining 25,000 SF. The waiting area includes a main reception counter, audio visual displays, and other thematic kiosks.

NELSON established a planning and design concept that allowed for a seamless integration of design between both the clinical amenity of the facility as well as the central administrative space that services all Rockford Orthopedic Associates facilities throughout Central Illinois.

While touring potential real estate locations for the new facility, Rockford Orthopedic Associates and their developer / project manager AMB Development Group, from Milwaukee, WI, discovered an abandoned grocery store, hardware store and retail store.

This “overall footprint” of space coupled with a structural system, that placed columns at 35’ centers, and provided a 35’ clear span from concrete floor slab to the underside of roof joists, provided the design team a unique opportunity to incorporate a second floor mezzanine section for the entire central administration area of the building.

This project represents a great example of repositioning a base building, creating a fully integrated sustainable story and capturing a real estate location that geographically positions itself in the heart of the Rockford Business District.
