Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau
The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) is a private, nonprofit corporation located in Philadelphia, PA and acts as the official Tourism Promotion Agency for the City of Philadelphia globally and the primary sales and marketing agency for the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Amidst a transitional time period, the PHLCVB commissioned NELSON to design an open, flexible, cutting-edge work environment for their team.
The design aesthetic was to create a sleek and modern space that captured the energy of the urban environment while adhering to budget constraints and PHLCVB’s desire for a more collaborative workspace. In lieu of private offices, the floor plan included bench seating for all tenures, including members of executive team that now sit in the open area with staff, providing for greater transparency and communication across tenures and disciplines. A central multi-purpose room, which utilizes flexible furniture, a movable wall and plug-and-play technology, provides for an array of functions from staff lunches, to training, to promotional events, to quarterly board meetings. Additionally, open touchdown areas throughout the space provide workspaces for off-site staff as well as varied workspace options for all. Raised flooring and furniture with plug-and-play technology help promote PHLCVB’s desire for a work environment that is open, multi-functional and flexible.
Notable design features include adjustable lighting settings throughout, a sculptural pendant in the reception area, varying ceiling heights, a mural of the city that encompasses an entire wall, and new color-changing LED signage at the perimeter glass. Brinjac Engineering, A NELSON Company, was also actively involved in the project and provided the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural work that was necessary to transform the original shell space.
The end result is a beautiful new work environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and creativity while allowing the PHLCVB to continue providing services to the City of Philadelphia.
