Laura Johnson Named Top Management Executive

What does it take to be a top executive manager? Just ask Laura Johnson, Director of Marketing at NELSON, who was recently named a top management executive during the 2016 SmartCEO Executive Management Awards. The annual ceremony honors leadership all stars in a variety of categories including CFOs, CMOS and those at the executive level.

As Director of Marketing, Laura manages a young team of professionals, with the average age being about 26. According to Laura, “They are ambitious, hungry for information, and, in the best way possible, naïve about the ‘corporate workplace,’” she says. “A huge part of my job is making sure they stay that way. I try to give every member of my team ownership of what they do and the power to make certain decisions.”

With three years total at NELSON and one in her role as Director of Marketing, Laura has seen her share of challenges. The most unique? The day her promotion was announced was also the same day of her daughter’s birth. After the announcement took place, Laura spent time meeting with her teammates, one-on-one, to reassure them that she would be there to help ease the transition along.

As Laura continues to lead the marketing team to success, she offers some advice. “Good ideas can come from anywhere, and I am not afraid to let people run with their ideas and see where they lead.”

Please join us in congratulating Laura on her accomplishment!
